Board of Governors.
The monthly general meeting of the High School Board of Governors was held on Friday evening, when the following members were present : Messrs MacDiarmid (chairman), Roy, .Smith, AUsworth, and Dockrill. It was resolved that the accounts of Mr Samuel and Messrs Bell, Gully, Bell and Myers be paid, and that the thanks of tlio board be conveyed to Mr Samuel for his conduct of the case.
Letters were read from Messrs Haddrell and Cook ro the injustice done to the holders of the Queen's Scholarships by the Act of 100!t, and replies from the Westland and Nnpicr K<lucation Boards to the board's circular dealing with the same matter.
Alter a further discussion of the matter the following resolutions were passed :—That this board invite the co-operation of the other educational authorities within the Middle District in promoting and presenting a petition to both Houses of I'urliament, pointing out the injury caused to the successful candidates at the recent examinations by the passing of the Queen's Scholarships Act of 190:-J, and asking that Parliament provide a sum sufficient to place the successful candidates in tho same position as they would have been if the amending Act had not been passed.
K was further resolved that Messrs Hoy and Allsworth be asked to prepare the petition to be forwarded with the above resolution, and that they have power to have the petition printed and circulated, and that the chairman and BccretarySallix the seal of the Board to the same. On tho motion of Mr Smith it was decided that in future the general meetings of the board be held on the first Wednesday in the month at •t p.m. , '
It was resolved to raise the salarries of Mr Ward and Miss Drew by £lO per annum. A report will be brought down at the next, meeting of the board on the employment of a gymnastic instrucl-
Owing to tho large increase in the number of pupils it Iras become absolutely necessary to increase tho class accommodation nt the school. Plans were submitted to the hoard, and it was resolved that Mr Bockrill be added to the building committee, and that tho plans be referred back to tile committee with power to act.
Accounts amounting to £.2(5(5 Ob Id were passed for payment.
