Urave rumours are afloat concerning the state of the Premier's health, ami it is stated that it. is very doubtful if he will be able to lend the House during the forthcoming session. We most sincerely hope'-that these rumours aro exaggerated and that the Right lion, gentleman will bo found in his place (it and well when Parliament opens.

Mr William N. Searancke, an old colonist, died at Hamilton, Auckland, somewhat suddenly on Friday. Mr Searancke, who was eighty-fivo years old, was one of Mr Gibbon Wakefleld'fc party, and landed at Wellington from the ship Brougham in He surveyed largo areas in Tar an aid, and was subsequently appointed Lord Commissioner in tho Wellington province. Later on, lie acted in a similar capacity in tho North Auckland district.

Another old settler )n the person of Mr Romulus Street has passed away at tho age of 65. The late .Mr Street, who was one of (lie best known and most respected furmers in the district, came from Cornwall, and arrived in New Plymouth in March 1842. Over 30 years ago he took up his present farm in Bell Block, which was then in . a rough stn(e. By dint of perseverance and hard work he carved out a liome of which any settlor might be proud. Mr Street was one of the mounted corps that went through the Maori war. lie look keen interest in agricultural matters and imported some English Leicesters nnd some Holstein cattle, the latter from America. No one who has visited his homestead \vill forget the hospitable kindness shown by the late Mr Street, and his loss will be felt by a very wide circle of friends nnd acquaintances. Hp leaves a widow and ten children. The funeral takes place to-morrow, leaving Mr A. Boon's residence, flill St., at 1 p.m.
