lor some years past the streets and footpaths of Napier have been I treated to a new system of tarring, | which has many advantages over ordinary asphalt. The treatment consists of the application to tile bare roads of tar which has been raised to a high temperature and cleaned of its by-products. The process has been 'found much cheaper than the ordinary asphalt treatment, the cost for three coats of the tar being tinder 9d per square yard on roadways. In Napier, the highest opinions are held of the new process, which is the invention of Mr T. Waterworth, borough overseer of that town. Mr Waterworth is in Wellington, and he will endeavour to sell the patent tights of his method for the cit« la the Wellington City Council, *iake a similar arrangement ffffra Fetone.
