The Mayor remarked that tlft granting of this privilege would lie a gain to the council, as it would encourage the Fitzroy people to use the water supply, ile took

the opposite view to Cr, Collis. Cr. Clill thought it would he a pity to delete the clause. A lire brigade there would he of benefit lo the east end of the borough. The committee set up to report on the application of Mr Spencer, the late engineer, for a testimonial, recommended that a testimonial be granted, mentioning particularly the aluittoirs, bridges, etc., the druinugc and gravitation water supply scheme and the uniform correctness of Mr Spencer's estimates. On the recomiuamlution of the engineer tlie road near the abattoirs and the ground mound tlie building will be metalled forthwith. It was decided that in future the works committee's reports be acted upon without being confirmed by the Council in full meeting.
