In delivering judgment, yesterday in the cast! of assaulting an official of t.ho Stratford Kacing Club, the Post, reports, Mr Stanford. S.M., stul.ed that in delivering his judgment he could not shut his eyes to what was happening ju other parts of the colony. There was u war between the bookmakers ami the racing clubs, and the public had come to regard the matter in the light of protecting the ollicials of a racecourse in the execution of their dutv. In this particular case he was very glad no legal point had arisen. The course was Ihe freehold property of the club, and 5t had the right to eject whom il pleased, and allow whom it pleased. rnneeessary force may have been user! ; but the accused had committed a very indefensible action. Taking into consideration the circumstances, he would not Impose a less tine than Air>, and reminded the accused that be had rendered himself liable to imprisonment. Accused would be fined £■'> and costs.
