Garrison Band.
The Garrison Band returned to New Plymouth on Saturday eveniing T>y the mail train, and were welcomed on arrival by a large crowd of townspeople. The band marched from the station aliShg ihe centre of the town. Members of the band state that with one of two exceptions every man did well, and it is considered that as a whole they should have come out in a better position than they did. As it is they eturn with between £7O and £BO worth of prizes in cash aud instruments, und a number of medals, llandsman J. Richards won the l b flat cornet solo competition, taking a gold medal and a thirty guinea silver cornet ; yet the fact was omitted from the press wire forwarded from Palmerston, and the men fool disappointed that their popular member's win should have thus been over looked. The Auckland Garrison Hand and No. I Infantry Battalion Hand also came up by the same tr,ain ; going ou by the Kotoiti to Onehunga.
