OUR LETTER BOX
(We are at all times willing to publish correspondence on matters of public interest, but it must be distinctly understood that we are not identified with the letters of our correspondents.—Ed. Daily News.) IMMIGRATION. (To the Editor). Sir,—l notice a leading article in one of your late issues bearing upon immigration. 1 am a recent arrival from tlte Old Country, having been here two months, during which time I have left no stone unturned to procure employment ; but 1 regret to say without success. 1 do not come under the term of a skillud mechanic, tart have served as a clerk in the Civil Service for four and n half years, then three years as a grocer, 30 that. 1 can claim to harvc a good knowledge of business life. Hut this knowledge seems at a discount generally throughout New Zealand, as is -Iwrne out by letters received from shipmates who proceeded to Wellington, Chiistclvurch, the Muff, and Ulin-edin. Had I lieoti a farm labourer or milker I might have been successful, hut not seeing- my way clear to launch out in this mode of eorni»g my living I am returning to England, wiser in experience but ppoivr in pocket. Under the circumstances 1 need scarcely slate I shall stir up what influence I can at home to prevent other yotroig fellows like myself- being lured otrt here by the glowing accounts givcu-.hy the Ag-ent-General and others.—l am, etc., GEORGE GKKGOUY. (We had no idva that the Agency-Genei-al was used iur amy ''luring-" pAir|wses, as suggested by ivur correspondent, whose remarks on that score woiu'.d upjiear to he somewhat ill-chosen, to say the least.—Ed. News.)
