Evidently our agitation bears fruit. Recognising tho want of local attractions at Christmuslide we urged the pcplic .totfill the blank awl remove- a standing reproach. Our remarks -have been sympathetic-ally ieceived. Certainly the Thames is not on fire, neither is the town gloving with excitement over any definite project for retaining our own town population and attracting country visitors during the holiday season of 1904-5. But people seem agreed that something must hie dono, aiid that we can do it. The next thing after conviction is action, and hero steps in his Worship the Mayor, who now proposes to call a public meeting to discuss the whole question. The dato will shortly be announced, and we hope the promoters will organise tho nffatfr, so that there will bo some definite project laid before the meeting ; and it is to be hoped that something tangible will result and a committee be spt up to keep the. matter before tho pulrlic.
