The 'difference between the Christmas Day cricketer and the Go<wl Friday cyclist is that the one is an ftjnateiU'r sportsman- celebrating a festival by fi (fluiet game, and the other is a pro'teswional money-maker outraging the most solemn hply day of the Christian year. Hie cyclist, with hiis brass band, and his excited crowd, amd his high stakes, anid his attenidlant ring of bookmakers, tween Good Friday into a cross between babel ajnd bedlam. The Christinas Day cricketer merely indulges in an i'rirnocent pastime free from any of t;he viulgiar amd demoralising cbantoteristics of the cycle meeting .—wherefore we are umajMe to agree with X.rt)K|deacotn AVerill that cricket in Camiterbury will cease to be

It is a day foir rejoicing, when we celetjlrate the 'hlaJppiest event in t>he history of the cai'th. Good Friday is a day for S£)letim meditation and prayer, when Christianity commemorated the greatest Human sacrifice, the crucifixion of its Christ. The Archdeacon is becoming too austere Christian. No doubt he is proj)erly anxious to check the tendency of the age to mukle ligjht of ho'ly things, but he will not (do it by eiKdeavouriugj to clijtun'gtt the character of a long held to be an occafeion for the heartiest jollity.—Truth.
