The New Zealand Herald records the death of another old identity in the person of Mrs E. P. Martin, of Epsom, hi 1835 she landed at the Bay of Islands wi't/h her parents (Mr and Mrs Francis White), at the age of four years. They wore escorted across to Hokianga by Tamati Waka and 'his people, Mrs Martin being carried by Tamati VVaka's wife the whole distance, at that time a two days' journey. After living at Hokianga for 10 yerfrs, the family left for Auckland. Mrs Martin married in 1656, and spoilt seven yearn at the Wesleyan Fiji Mission station where she had some narrow escapes from death, being shot at several times by the natives. Returning from Fiji on account of her health, she spent the remainder of her life in Auckland, keeping wonderfully well and active until about three weeks ago, when her strength began 'to fail, ending in ij r death on Saturday moniing lust. District Judge Kettle, now in charge of the Wanganu-i-New Plymouth circuit is (says a Christchurch Press correspondent) 'to be transferred to Auckland, in accondance with- an agreement niude to open district courts in that part of the colony. News lias been received by the Wan Francisco mail of the death at Ilounslow, London, at the age of 7(1, of Mr Henry William Wright, eldest son of the late Mr Henry Wright, of New Plymouth.
Mr ].'i-cd llrowne, for twelve years a resident of Stratford, and formerly a member -of the Borough Council there, leaves Auckland with his family on the 10th hist, for Samoa, their future home, l'rior to leaving Stratford, he was presented with a gold albert and greenstone pendant subscribed by the j>ublic of the town. Arthur Jones,' who tor many years has taken a groat interest m acclimatisation mutters in Stratford, baa been made the recipient of a valuable presentation, accompanied by an" illuminated address, from ths Stratfond Acclimatisation Society members.
