The Late Mr Thos. Carter.
The deep sympathy felt on (ill hands for the faintly of the late. Mr Carter and lire high esteem in which he had been held were fully exemplified on Tuesday afternoon, when one of the largest corteges seen here for many years followed the remains to Tp. Henui.

The remains wore accorded military honours, tho Taranaki Uifles (to which the deceased belonged) and fiuards turning out in good force. The coffin was carried on a gun. carriage, drajHKl with the Union Jack and bearing on it the dead man's helmet and accoutrements. Tho following was a very representative one, and included tho Druid's Lodge in a body and the Star and Tukapa Football Club members. As tho procession passed through tho streets to (.he solemn strains of the Head March in " Saul " played by the Ciurrison Hand it formed a most impressive sight. The grave-side service was conducted by the Hev. J. Newman Buttle, who made touching references to tho deceased's fine manly qualities which had so endeared* him tq all who; Iqiew him. The Druids' 'burial service was then read, and the firing party from the Taranaki Rifles stepped forward and fired the customary three volleys.
There were many i>eautirul floral tributes, over eighty being received. Those included wreaths from the volunteers and football club and other societies.
