Mr Monkhouse, the newly elected member of tlie Board, took his seat on Friday for the first time. Members of the Board made very complimentary references to Mr Monkhousc's public services, in welcoming him to the table. Mr Joseph Mackay has been again elected Chairman of the Stratford County Council. Mr A. G . Butcher has resigned the position of teacher of the Oaonui school, as from the end of the year. 9ir Alfred CJadnTatn was a passenger from Wellington on Thursday by the mail train. He remained i'n New Plymouth till last evening, and then proceeded to Auckland.
Hon. W. Beehan, lI.L.CX, and Miss Beehan were passengers lor the North by the Rarawa last evening'. Mr F. Lavvry, M.H.R., also returned to Auckland by the same boat.
Mr C. Hanson, general manager of the Northern S.S. Co., returned to Auckland lust evening by the Rarawa, having been on a brief visit to Wellington.
Mr A Ifivd Saunders, formerly a member of the New Zealand House of Representatives, wno is now in England, has presented to the Er-me-lo settlement, South Africa, a consignment of English fowls valuod at £loo, His son, Mr Edward Saunders, is now a large land owner at Ermelu.
Mr J. Veaersen, one of the butter experts engaged by the Government, who arrived by the Rimutaka, came S'traig'ht out from Denmark, and at present has hardly more than a passing. acquaintance with our language, but that he says he soon hopes to rtfiiedy.
