Education Board.
Tho Education Board met on Friday, Present—Mr Allsworth (chairman), Mrs Dougherty, Messrs Adlam. Wade, Mackay, Monkhouse, Faull und Morton. ARCHITECT'S REPORT. The Architect (Mr Sanderson) reported that the Stratford Technical school building would be completed in. abogt a week's time. Repairs to ' the residence at Opunake were (Inuhed. At the Warea school a roof ventilator was faulty and the building required painting. Works at Okato and Tariki were about completed and. the contractor had commenced woik at the Urenui School.—Received. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT. This was read and adopted, KTRATFoiiD, Connection of the school premises with the town sewerage was requested by tho committee, and the chairman said the work had been authorised. A request for a new residence could not be entertained; owing tb lack of funds; but assistance was granted foi- /Wing the back of the present building. OAKURA.' Necessary repairs to the residence were authorised, but the painting of the school was deferred* till next grant was allocated. MAHOE. A request for new blinds was referred to the inspector, and the matter of erecting a residence was deferred. BELL ROCK. A request was received from the committee that the attendance for the December quarter, 1002, be substituted for the present one, as a blisis of grading the school, owing) to repeated epidemics of sickness. Tho average attendance for the (Quarter required the reduction of the teaching staff.—The matter was referred to the Department. TARIKI. Mr Jameson wu/ited on the Board to ask for compensation to Mr Ear son, the headmaster, for improvements made to land since leased to other parties. After some discussion the question was referred to • Messrs Mackay and Morton to enquire. CARRINGTON ROAD. The committee notified that an enlargement was required, and new furniture was an immediate necessity. The cost of .the enlargement would be about £6O to £7o.—Tha matter was held over for enquiry. INSPECTOR'S RiSIORTS. Reports on the examination of ; several schools were considered in committee. MIDHIRST. It was resolved that Mr M. J, Raikes, headmaster at Midhlrst, receive three months' notice of the termination of his engagement. CONFIRMED. The action of the Fitzroy and Waihi committees, in closing their schools on account of an epidomio of sickness, was confirmed. ACCOUNTS. Accounts were presented for paymerit and tho Board adjourned.
