The value of gold entered for export in 1902 was £1,951,433, an increase of £197,650 on 1901.

£21,000 will be asked for this year for development of goldfiel'ds. The expenditure on telogyaph extension last year totalled £68,578. The vote this year is limited to £SO, 000, including a liability on March 31st last of £27,409, leaving £22,591 for works in hand and further extensions.

Expenditure on public buildings last year amounted to £259,303 For the current year a vote of £15,670. The Minister proposes to- provide funds lor additional accommodation at the asylums of the colony. The vote for school buildings in 1902 was £100.750, of which £85,644 was expended. For this year an appropriation of £110,950 is asked for. It is doubtful whether Government can continue assistance in metalling roads to dairy factories. Net expenditure on roads, etc., last year, exclusive of roads on goldfiel'ds and loans to local bodies was £208,605. The total amount authorised under Government Loans to Local Bodies account was £49 - 900, and amount voted for expenditure £18,579.

The work of finishing the Coal (.reek railway which was begun bv the Point Elizabeth Coal Co. is anproaching completion. Last year's expenditure £0775.
