PARLIAMENT.
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. TUESDAY, Nov. 10. Tha Council met at 2.30. The Labour Department Bill v ' as reported from Committee with the verbal amendments suggested by the Labour Bills Committee. The Maori Council Bil, was rend a second time and referred to the Native Affairs Committee. The Tneroa-Wai'hi Hallway Bill, the School Committee funds Bill and Patriotic Funds Bill were read a second time. The Coastwise Trade Bill passed through Committee. The Titn!b)ei' Export Duty Bill and Rating on Unimproved Value Bill were ieported from Committee unamended and read a third time and passed and the Council adjourned till eight p.m. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16. The House met at 11.30. Mr TAYLOR gave notice to ask the Premier what steps he intends to take to have a plebiscite taken ob the Bi'ble reading in. schools question. seeing that the Legislative Council has thrown out the Referendum Bill. The Kawhia and Awakino Coutuies Kill (Ward) was introduced ami read a first time. The Petone Foreshore Vesting mil was thrown out. The New Plymouth Harbour .llffird Empowering Bill was withdrawn. The Oamaru Harbour Board .Loon BPI (Duncan) was read a second time.
The House then went into Committee on 35 local Bills. The Taranaki and Hawera Hospital Districts Apportionment Bill, and the New Plymouth Borough and Taranaki Hospital Exchange Bill passed through Committee without materiol amendment.
The House resumed at 2 p.m., when the following local bills were passed through Committee and were subsequently put through their final stages : —Port Chalmers Corporation Empowering, Stage Dock Trust, Electric Lighting, Carterton Borough Water Supply, Wainono Drainage District Adjustment, Thames Harbour Board Empowering, Taranaki and Hawera Hospital Districts Apportionments, New Plymouth Borough and Taranaki Hospital Exchange. Whanigiarei Borough Repayment enabling, Hutt Mechanics Institute, Timar.u Harbour district and Harbour Board, Lvttelton Harbour Board Enlargement, Christchurch District Drainage Amendment, Wanganui Suburbs Lighting, Wellington Corporation Leasing, Waiapu Hospital District, Otago Harbour Board Empowering, and Patea Foreshore Bill. A number of other local Bills were also put through their final stages, including the Taranaki School Commissioivers and Borough Exchange Bill. On resuming at 7.30 Mr Seddoh gave notice to move that, a referendum of the people be taken on questions whether (a) the Legnsla-. tive Council remain as at present, (b) be abolished, or (c) be made elective.
