Egmont County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held at the office on Friday. Present :—Crs. Maxwell, Dudley, Burgess, Fleming, Rathery, Briant, and Thorn Icy. 11l the absence of Cr. Forsyth- Cr. Maxwell was voted to the chair.
Correspondence, inward.—Cr. Forsyth iv his absence, and suggesting that the Council should procure a crusher similar to the Hawera one. A committee of the Council is to look into the matter, and report to next meeting. From the Commissioner of Crown Lands re thirds. Resolved, that the Foreman be asked to report on necessary works, with a view to allocating the money to the different roads to the best advantage.
From the Premier to Mr Major, re native lands unoccupied, in reply to one from the Council. Resolved, that the clerk again write to the effect that something should bo done, even if only on account of the spread of noxious weeds to the unoccupied lands.
From the Hawera County Council, re charitable aid rates. Ordered to
He on the table. From Mrs Rowlands, for permission to encroach on road with wire fence to protect boxthorn plants.— Granted.
From Mr Mills, asking for approach to his section at Rahotu. The Council decided that they were nol responsible to make approaches. From Taranaki County Council, re adjusting accounts. A sub-committee ! was appointed to go into overdraft. From Hawera District Hospital Board. The chairman was appointed to the Board. A petition from Auroa Road setre diversion of rates. The petitioners to be informed that rates accruing to the lower end will be spent there, From Mr Gatercby, asking for something to be done to Upper Oeo Road. Foreman instructed to roport an the road, and also on the bridge, which was mentioned as being in a bad way. From Stratfoix} Cuunty Council re the projjo.scd County franchise now before the House. Resolved, that
this Council agree with the suggestion of the Stratford Council, and co-operate with, them, and that eopfi>s tie sent to the members for the district.
From Mr G-atenby, asking permission to remove firewood from fowl along his frontage. Granted, on the usual royalty being paid, The Foreman to be instructed to see that firewood is not stacked in dangerous places qm roads. From Taranaki Council offering stonw crusher for £—, on three years' terms. The matter to be dealt with at next meeting. Mr Bayly waited on Council re contract No. 5. He explained that he tendered under the impression that the Council was finding the and asked for concession. I Resolved, that the contractor must sign and proceed with work.
The Council went into committee,
and on resuming the tender of R. Cave, broken stone 6s 6d, and shingle 3s 3d, was accepted for the Auroa Road.
The Oeo Riding foreman's report was considered, and it was decided to spend £5 over road account (about in all) on the Wiretnu Road, which will give Mr Townsend am outlet.
It was resolved to spend £BO in extending the metalling on the Nopero Road.
Mr Thornley asjHwl that the Foreman be instructed to give an estimate of 40 chains of metalling in continuation of Riri Road.
The Rahatu Riding foreman's report was read. It was resolved to sell by auction the l'uniho toll house, tank, fencing, and gate, wd to remove the Heimama gate and posts, and utilise fhom Where required.
Resolved, that tenders be called for 200 yards crushed metal between Waiweranui and Newal Road, and that the Foreman be authorised to procure 500 feet timber for redeckmg a small bridge. That Wi Kupi foe given final notice that if the box thorn is not removed at once the Council will take action.
i hat J. McCiUTum be given seven days notice to renew the damajmd guard rail, or the Council would do it at his expense.
That Mr Corbett be asked to hurrv up with his contract.
lhe clerk reported that he had seen Dr Morrison re Cottage Hospital, who had not yet the nacessar.v information. *
The clerk reported the price of safes, and it was ■decided that he procure a Milner, A committee, consisting of Crs nlu ' Stevenson, Maxwell, and Kothery was appointed to draft and submit at next meeting by-laws to govern the Council.
Cr. Maxwell was appointed to sign cheques in the absence of the Chairman,
