ENGLISHMEN v. VICTOHIA. MELBOURNE, Nov. 13. The weather is fine and the wicket excellent. Arnold, Braund and Lilley stand out. Laver won the toss and the Home team going to the wickets were in trouble, but luckily there was found a sting in its tail. The first . wicket fell for nil, McAlister, who opened with Bruce, playing Hirst's first ball on. Bruce went with the total at 10. Trott and Armstrong carried the total to 33, but scored very slow, the first 25 runs taking 45 minutes. Trott was smartly stumpc:! off Rhodes.- Ellis was content with a single- Laver joined Armstrong and a good stand resulted from the partnership, which by steady play raised the score to 81 before Rhodes found Armstrong's timbers. Horan arrived only to see Laver clean blowled by Fielder. Tuckwell made a,, short stay and Collins a still short, er one, the last three wickets adding only three runs. 8 for 84. The stand of the day was made by Horan and Monfries, who were both well set and handled the bowling confidently, displaying excellent form. The fielding was good and an improvement on that in the match at Adelaide. Scores.
