Taranaki Poultry, Canary and Pigeon Society.

The annual meeting of members oi the Taranaki J'oultry, Canary, and Pigeon Society was held in the Far-" mers' Club rooms last evening. There was a fair attendance of members, Captain Hood, President, occupying the chair. Mr Gray was elected a member, on the motion of Messrs Brooks and J. HuiTe.

Mr H. I. W. Hurle, the secretary, produced the annual balance-sheet, ami explained that he had been unable to get the statement audited. One of the auditors had been away out of town, and the other auditor had not been available that day owing to pressure of business. Mr Cullen wanted to know why balance-sheet had not been prepared, and set before the auditors a couple of months ago.

Mr John Hurle said he had had a gowl deal to do with the Society's affairs, and for many reasons he knew it would be impossible to have presented the balance-sheet any earlier than three days ago. He did not want to ineiitien- why, or to state names of defaulters, so he hoped there would be no questions asked.

There was a rambling 1 discussion, during which the secretary stated entrance fees were unpaid for months.

Wr "Griffiths did not think unpaid entrance fees should have prevented the balance-sheet being brought down. .

The President moved, and Mr Teed seconded, that owing to Mr White being absent from town Mr Gray be asked to act as auditor in conjunction with Mr Gilmour.— Carried. Just at this time a letter from Jfcr Gilmour was received to the effect that the secretary had not called ou one o'clock that day, and he had been, of course, unable to audit the balance-sheet in so short a time.

The secretary read a letter from Mr J. T. Sinclair, re gold medals. The Chairman explained that at the time of opening the Taranaki Herald's new machinery Mr Bannister had promised to Mm (Captain HooW)_perßonially a medal for the best light brabma in the ahow. It now appeared that Mr Bannister had repudiated this.

Some members thought it vu merely a slip of memo*}' on Mr Bannister's part.

Captain Hood promised to writs privately to Mr Bannister.

The North Island Association wrote, notifying the postponed annual meeting in November in Wellington, and asking the Society to appoint a delegate, and submit tin proposed dates of the next show Members asked whether aayfchW was gained by affiliating with the Association.

Mr Cullen said there had teen great dissatisfaction with the work of the Association in Auckland, Batter things were expected now Mr John Hurle said that outside of the championships there was nothing for the Society last year Mr Brooks did not see any good 'in *™ mlln S w »h the Association rms body was supposed to have provided judges for shows, but had not done so.

Mr Teed' said the Society wa» aU most bound to continue affiliation with the Association. Some oTthe local members had a " leg in" for' the championships, and ought to to given full opportunity to get them U possible.

Mr Johnson moved, and Mr Brooks seconded", that the Society continue to be affiliated with" tin Association.—Carried.

Mr li. Bannister was appointed delegate to the Association, on the motion of Mr Griffiths, seconded by Mr Cullen.

Mr Teed suggested that New Plymouth, Stratford, Hawera, Wanganui, and Pahnerston societies have one delegate, as their interest* were identical.

Mr Gray thought, in the evwt at Mr Bannister not accepting the pos* ition, the Eltham, Stratford, and Hawera societies be communicated with, asking if they will combine in' sending a delegate from Taranaki. . It was decided to lewd the Society's pens to tho Wanganui Society on the usual conditions.

Mr Grifllths moved that Messrs WV McEwau, Teed, and the mover be a committee to revise rules of the So* ciety, and report at a future general meeting. Seconded by the etoairraai* and carried. The Chalhnan proposed that the meeting l stand adjourned until next> Friday, 20th inst., for the adoption of the balance-sheet, and general business'. The meeting then adjourned.
