Presbyterian Assembly.

DUNEDIN, Nov. 12. At the Presbyterian Assembly the morning was devoted to students and scholarship regulations and the ifuestion of sptttng up an order of deaconesses. In the afternoon the difference between the Stratford minister an'd the Tanrnaki Presbytery was debated ii\ private. The evening was devoted'to reports of missions, when there was a large attendance. After the Maori mission report had been adopted it was resolved to approve the establishment of a school for Maori girls at Turakina.. It was agreed to set aside £4OO from tho general fund and authorise the committee to purchase the Turakina manse if sufficient funds are forthcoming, and if maintenance! is sufficiently received. The idea is more to "teach gu\s cooking aifid sewing, and especially the preparation of food for infants. It was mentioned that if the infant mortality could not fte stopped the Maori race, was doomed. Fully two-thirds of the Maori children died before the age of Ave years. A motion was carried expressing deep regret and accepting tho resignation of Rev.' Gordon, of Turakina, as Maori mission convenor, and high appreciation of his past services. The report on foreign missions which was optimistic was adopted.
