United Friendly Societies' Picnic.

A meeting of the United Feeing ly Societies' Picnic Committee was held at tlu? Co/fee Palace last evening. Present—Messrs Bennett (chairman), ttullot, Ford, Cloland, R o t>. erts, and Hotfbs (secretary.) Correspondence was read from the Town Clerk to the effect that tha Borough Council would not hold its seasido picnic on New Year's Day this year, but in future this could not bo de.erred, and would be .held annually that day.

The Railway Department wrot» that they could "not run three trains for the picnic, but they would try and arranigp trains to leave New Plymouth at IO.'SO a.m. and 1 p.m., if possible. The lares from New Plymouth to Sentry Hill would be la 6d for adults return and children 9d.

The Town Band wrote forwarding an offer to ■ play at the picnic.

The Secretary reported having seen the secretary of the Garrison Band on this matter.

It was decided to engage the Garrison Band for the day.

Delegates from the various lodges promised to " wake up" matters in connection with the picnic affairs, failway arrangements, etc.
