His Honor Judge Edwards was a passenger to Auckland last night. Mr Barron, of the Land Purchase Board, left by the Karawa for Auckland last evening. Dr. Gerard Smith, lately of Hawera, has been appointed health officer at Hobart. News has been received of the death of Mr Laurence Cussen, a well-known officer of the Lands and Survey Department in the Auckland district. Miss Laura Maddison, youngest daughter of Mr J. C. Maddison, the well-known Christchureh architect, has just passed her examination as a duly qualified chemist. One of Miss Muddisou's sisters has qualified as a doctor.
Mr George Moir is expected to return shortly to Eltham from a trip to England and Scotland, od at* rangements are being made to welcome him.
Mr James Embling, late of the Bank of New Zealand, proposes learing England on the return Journey to the colony this month. Mr T. BCaVrcy Hamilton, of Kawhai, and formerly of Eltham, is enjoying a holiday at Home. . fie leaves this week for the Continent. Mr C. J. Brodrick, formerly of Hawera, but now practicing as a* architect in Invercargill, is visiting Hawera.
Mr James Kowin has left Hawera for London.
