An ainandiaient was moved by the Jh'iivman that the bridge carpenter be sited to report what weight the bridge vill carry, and that it be notified aocorningly. The amendment was carried, and she bridge carpenter is to report at once and a special notice posted that 'hat the Council will not be responsible for accidents to vehicles of a greater ?/eight. The Riding foremen's reports were ceid, Authority was to the Moa foreman for necessary timber for n-idges. The foremen Rre to be supplied with a copy of the bye-laws, and ■.orepn-t breaches. The Omata foreman was authorised to obtain 50 nine-inch pipes for a drain at Tataraimaka, The West End School Committee's attention is to be called to the waste papur laying about the road. The foreman was authorised to do the necessary ropairs opposite the school. Work necessary to prepare the sites for the crusher was authorised. An ex'ra 300 yards of stone was authorised to be obtained E. Gaorge. Authority was given for tho removal of 60 yards of earth from Mrs Wright's property m the South-road.

On the motion of the Chairman id was decided that the foreman put a light coat of blinding on the steepest bids in the County so as to keep the m(it«l in place. Tho bridge carpenter's report was read. He is to report on the probable cos"; of reinstating Patterson's bridge. The Public Trustee submitted a statement of receipts and expenditure io the estate of the late Joseph G!edhill, showing a balance of £699 for division among the family. It was resolved that the Oounoil considers the matter hw bfeo settled very sitisfac'orily, and that tho charges made by the Public Trustee seem moderate. R. Wright was granted a license to slaughter at Lipperton. An application by Mr Trimble for payment of rent for crusher site was referred to the Moa members to report upon. The Henui Road Board wro'e relative to taking ov.ir. the control of the fontpaths at Fitz-oy.—Deferred for inquiry as to the Council's power in the matter, Mr J. Skinner reported, recommending reducing the hill from (Jhilmanstreei, Fitzroy, to Paynter's lane. Adopted. j Is wa3 decided to ca'l for traders for 2000 yards of matal for metalling the ro-ifi at Fitzroy over its full width. Th.3 .Railway District ifinginear j wrote asking permission to lay lines '■ across the Mountain Road near the Waipuku bridge for a siding to enable the department to gat larger stone.— Granted, provided the crusher site is Wi affrcfod and that the road is made good. Mr W. B. D.ivies waited on the Council with a petition from the S9ttle'» in the Oakurs, Road district adjacent to iha Forest Reserve, req'wtting that certain sections bo attached to the Garringtou Road Dis*ricb and offering topiy the cost. It was also stated that the Oakura Board had no objection, Mr H. Okey wrote objecting to sections 3 and 4, block 7, Uape, baing included, as his interest was in the Petone-roid.
It was decided to receive the petition and defer consideration till next meeting, in tin meautime the Carringtonroad Board to ba notifie 1. The Ohai.-nnn drew attention to a proposal in the new Licensing Bill that he County Ohiirmen and Mayors of B roughs should be members of the Licensing Committees. He considered that to introduce such an element of controversy into County affairs would be very objectionable, and he moved : That this Council considers the clause is not in the best interest of the ratepayers of the County, as it will have a tendency to bring the question of license or no-license into the election of local bodies. -Carried unanimously, It was decided to forward a copy of the re-olution to thß members for the district and the leader of the Opposition

A circular was read from the Ohairmen of the Ashburton and Geraldine County Councils urging co-operation in obtaining an amendment in clause 2 of the Water Power Bill—lt was dec : ded to comply with the request, and to point out that the free use 'of water power for dairy and other industries in the district should be projected. Messrs Okcy and Rollo's tender of .£485 lis for Waipuku bridge was aecvpted, and tenders are to be called for the concrete piew, to close prior to the fourth Wednesday in November. Tho Chairman's action in accepting carviin tenders was confirmed. Or. drew attention <o tho | encroachment of a fence about 12 fnet on the Oouaty road na.u- Ngitoro bridge, and that it was necessary to have it removed.—Mr Gamlin is to be notified accordingly, Accounts amounting to £459 19s 1 d were passed.
