WEST END SCHOOL BAZAAR.
Peessore on our space oompellpd our holding over a full report of the Bazaar which was held last Thursday m connection with the above school, and which proved a most successful function, resulting in a sum of .£49 being added to the funds of the Committee, an amount which greatly exceeds expectations, and it must be very satisfactory to the members of the School, Oommittea to find that their efforts for the good of the school and the welfare of the scholars are reciprocated by the parents to such an extant as was manifest on Thursday last. It is only a few weeks ago since the question of getting up a bazaar was mooted, and it was curried out by the following ladies' committee:—Mesdames Blanchard, Boswell, Garner, Inch, Edwards, Orozier, Mills, Hooker, Mcfsaacs, Brokonshire, Shirley, Gilbert, Harvey, Gardner, Patterson, Moresbead, acdGrylle, Misses Grylls, Wray, Simmonds and Nixon, together with the school staff, viz., Mrs Dowliog, Misses Mynott, Nixon and Hoby, and Mr Barry. Needless to say one and ill vied witb each other to ensure success. Visitors to the school oo Ihursday afternoon were struck with the completeness with which everything had been cirried out, even to the smallest details, this being due no doubt to the careful supervision of Mrs Dowling, the head teacher, to whom a lot of praise was due and is given.
The Chairman of the Education Board, in the course of his remarks, at the opening ceremony, very justly con the West End people on having got such a live committee, and referred to the need of soon having to jigain enlarge the school. MrWhit- | combs, the Board's Secretary, was also present and took a lively interest in the proceedings. Beside the long still going the entire length of the room upon which were piled and hung the hundred and one different articles dear to the feminine heart -cushions, dolls, and fanoy goods, etc.—drawing and guefsing competitions were held, also another novelty it the way of a smelling competition, consisting of various liquids in small bottler, to which you were invited to Hmell and gues3 the names of (tontents, for whjcb, a y&cy handsome priza was given to the one guessing the largest number coareotly. At the afternoon tea stall the attendants were kept busy all the afternoon and evening. The greatest interest as far as the younp folks went was centered in a large Xmas tree, upon' which was hung all manner of toys, etc, and in the bran .tubs, whioh they very soon emptied. A refreshment and lollie stall also did a big business, presided oyer by soma of the young ladies. In the evening the Garrison Band attended and enlivened the proceedings with several excellent items. At the close Mr Hurle, on behalf of the Committee, thanked the ladies for the whole-hearted way in whioh they had taken the baziar in hand and congratulated them upon the very successful result, with which one and all have every reason to be thoroughly satisfied. Win. the assistance of a subsidy expected from the Education Boird the committee should be able to make a thoroughly good job of the surroundings of the school,
