Mr Massey was entertained at a banquet last night by the members of tho OpDosition Party and a few personal friends. Sir W. Russell, who occupied the chair, in proposing the toast of the guest of the evening, said be genuinely and honestly believed a turn in the political tide had come, and that it would be materially influenced by the many good and necesary quilifi nations of leadership possesstd by Mr Mtssey. I In responding, Mr Massey said tho sheaves of telegrams and letters he bad | received showed that the country was satisfied with the reorganisation of the Opposition. They had been twitted with a desire to get on the opposite| benches, but be did not know a biugle j Opposition memb»r who wautcd to go there yet. He said the conduct of Parliamentary business during the present session had been scan lalous, and the responsibility must res' with tha Premier, who had driven instead of lead the house. The Opposition would place a policy before the country before tha next election. The Upper House wsb now almost useless as a revising chamber, and would soon have to be ended or mended, and that chamber would have to be made elecive. When the Government Land Bill c»me down the freehold question would have to be faced. What was wanted in the colony was a clean, honest, and economical administration, instead of: waste, extravagance, and nepotism,
