At the recent examination in connection with the Wesleyan Sunday School Union, the following Bcholars attending the Whiteley Ohurch School passed sucjessfully in their respective pradea, viz, Grade A, Sydney Griffiths 85, Wallace Weal 82, Pearl Bullock 76, Ethel White 74, Ifarry Broadmore 70; Grade 0., Newman Buttle 59. The examination embraced schoojs in all parts of the colony. A party consisting of several members of the Christian Eudeavour Society in connection with Whiteley Ohurch, and other friends visited tht> Old Men's Home, last evening, and provided a very pleasant entertainmont for the inmates. The programme supplied by the visitors was interspersed with items given bv several of the inmates, who evidently were old-time entertainers of no mean order. Mr and Mrs Farrar did all that was possible to make the affair pass off successfully, and at the close of proceedings, on the motion of Mr Farrar, hearty thanks were accorded to the performers. At a meeting of representatives of school committee at Wanganui, it was decided to form a School Committees Association, to furthsr the interests of school oommittees generally. The Wanganui Collegiate School Old Boys' Association have decided, with tho consent of the College authorities, to erect a brass memorial tablet in the College chapel in momory of the late Rev J. M. Marshall. :

A very pleasing ceremony took place at L. M. Taunton and Company's place of businoas on Thursday morning, when Bar linitflih, who has been in the employ of. ho firm for seven years, on behalf of the staff presented Mr Taunton, who is leav- i ing for home, with a pair of silver mounted abouy ha.ir brushes. In doing sc <V.r , Knight made a few feeling remarke at the regret, tiiey all felt at Mr Taunton's parture, and wishing him a very ploasant . trip. Mr Taunton made a few suitable remarks in reply, and leaves for Home, we understand, about tlie 2nd November. At a meeting of temperance sympathies at Wanganui on Thursday, the Licensing Bill was strongly condemned.
