The Times' Pekin correspondent reports that on the occasion of the British military ball on Tuesday an attempt was made to explode the magazine con taining, in an exposed position, explosives and ammunition for the defence of the legation. The breacblock and sights of the 4.7 gun were simultaneously stolen, but have since been recovered in the native city. Wires were laid in connection with a battery, but for some reason were not connected, otherwise the consequences would have been disastrous.
