LAND SETTLEMENT IN TARANAKI
BALLOT FOR IMPROVED FARM SECTIONS. On Sa'urday morning a ballot took place ia the Crown Lands Office, New Plymouth, under the supervision of Mr Mackenzie, Commissioner of Crown Lands, for 105 sections, containing about 20,000 acre*, in the Obura and Upper Mokau portion of the King Country, lying in the Taranaki Land District, the successfuLapplicints being co-operative labours]» employed on the Main Trunk Railway line, and include men from Oogarue, Taumaranui, Prreheka, Taihape, Mangiweka, etc., for whom the land had specially opened, Of those drawing sections 66 were married men and 39 single men. Mr E, M. Smith, M.H.R,, acted as scrutineer on behalf of the workmen, and, at the conclusion of the ballot, expressed his satisfaction at the manner in which it had been conducted. Tho Commissioner was assisted by Messrs Marsh (Superintendent of Tillage Settlements), Langmuir (Chief Draughtsman), B-musvei ('"Href Clerk), and | Doile (Ui.ceiver of Land Rtv. nuo). | ; It is intended that the i\ m under of the land in the King Country, surveyed into sections, and cow practically ready for offdiing, and amounting to atiou" 61,000 acres, in areas of from abont. 220 acres up to about 1800 acres, will ba offered on ordinary lease in perpe'uity conditions at the earliest possible dates.
