OPUNAKE.

i (From oua Own Uohbesposdest.) :The Oputiake Horticultural and Injdustrial Exhibit Society, which was formed about 12 months ago, held their first Spring Show (being the second Show held under the auspicas of the Society) on Wednesday last. They were unfortunate in the weather conditions, but notwithstanding the prevailing rain there wes a very fair attendance of the public. The Sbow was creditable in the extreme, avid was purely local. Even the horticultural enthusiasts that corstitu 1 -*' t! e committee of the Society fs c surprised when all the >xUb is were staged and ready for j n'ging. At the Autumn Show thu display of pot plants was acknowledged to be the best ever seen here, the exhibits on that occasion were altogether outclassed by the splendid display on Wednesday. The pot plants were very good, the principal exhibitors being Mr Pill and Miss Pettigrew. Some petunias and primulas were worthy of mention. The foliage plants were also very good, chiefly the maiden-hair and asparagus springeri. Out flowers were well represented, some of the blooms were first rate. The chief prizi wieners were: —Rev. Ellis, Mrs Rogers, Mr Pill, and Mr Freethy. The decoration section was much above the average, some of the designs being exceedingly well got up. Mies Pettigrew's decorated table, stocks and erica, secured tha firsi prize I in the adult section, and Dorothy Ellis, iwith white scilla and hcop petticoat daffodil, prettily arranged, secured a similar distinction iu the section for juveniles. Mr W. A, Limbrick (President of the Taracaki Horticultural Association) judged the pot plants and cut blooms and Mits Jeffery (of Wellington) acted in the same capacity in the decorative class.
