PRESENTATION TO LIEUT. HOLMES,
The Taranaki Guirds had a good muster on Tuesday evening. Captaia Ocofc was in command, Lieutenants Ho'm"B and Messenger beiDg also on pivadt s . He had hk n a very active pat t in the formation of the corps and lud b en a z ahus me-nber of the loropaDy ever since, and an excellent Ulcer. He (Oaptain Cook) regretted very much Lieutenant Holmes having, through removal to Wellington, to sever his cjnnrction with the Corps, tie was Jure ha lud the good wishes of the whole Company for his fu'ure welfare. Captain Cook then handtd Lieutenant Holmes the add reps and photo. LieutanantHolraes, in reply, thanked O iptain Cook for his kind rema kg, and tne whyln of the Company for the addies* and photo. He v n veryS'irry to tever his connection with the Oimpiny and should wa f ch their future with in'erest. He was glad to see the Company had a good name in Wellington, and Colonel Col'ings had told him that the Taranaki Guards were considered one of the bsst drilled and smartest corps on the west coast of the North Inland. Addressing the men, Lieutenant Holme 3 urged them to ke?p up theii good cam o , and as they had always bad done back up the efforts of their offi :ers in keeping the corps up to the mark. Lirutemnt Holmes aaid he shou'd always look back to tha time he bad spent in the oorps with pleasure, and always ba proud of belonging to the Guwds and having held a commit* aion in the Company. Three cherrs were then given for Lieutenant Holmef, and the Company's war ory given in his honour;
SKRVI'JK BADGBB. At the cl jse of the parade CUptain Cook presented a star to be worn on the right arm, to those who had completed thrae years efficient servioe. The following are the names of those entitled to tbe distinctionOol,Sergeant 0. T. Mi Is, Sjrgts. Goldwater, G. M. White and W. F. Short, Corporals W. Oliver, W. H. Perham and J. W. Bjon, Privates W. Bayly, F, Movei W, R, J. Allswortb, J. Oillington and Geo. BUnchird.
Lieut. Messenger was also awarded a badge, but having received a com-mi-ifinn it is on'rary to the regulations for him to weir it,
Lieut. Messenger's service is rather interesting. In addition to tbe Guards tbe department J return shows it includes ntrvice in 'he Txranaki Rifles, Tir.tnaki Moun'ed Rifles B Oumpany 2 id Bttlalion Victoria Rifles, and 0, Battery Victoria Artillery.
