Mr Hutchen waited on tho Council in support of an application to dispense with brick walk in the building in Egmont-street to whioh it was proposed to make additions, The Mayor printed out that the matter had been discussed by the Committee, who were not inclined to pledge the Council for a long time ahead.

Th(-re were 36 applicants for the position of o:etk of Wotks at the wj'er intake. The succes-fnl candidate at the fiaal balloi wa* J. Q)lk>r, who was appointed to the position. Cr. Bultringer moved that a site be obtained at the Honui for a septic tank. —Carried.

Cr. Bellringer moved that the M <yor, Crs Carter, Wood, and the irnver be a committee to report on the septic tank site at the Henui.—Carried. Or. Smith moved that in view of the future extension of the Borough, immediate steps be taken to acquire property between the Mangorei-road and Courtenay-s'reat, or botween the Maniord r.jad and Lemon-street, and that the Woiks Committee view the two sitfs and report thereon. Cr. Wood seconded pro forma. At the suggestion of tine Mayc, the mo ion w altered to reid, that in view of (lie fu'uro extension of the Borough, the Wo»ka Committee view the Cou. tenay and Lemon-street-i sites for proposed so the Maugnreiroad, and report tiiertoo.—Carried.
