PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Palmseston North, September 26. A disastrous fire occurred at Foxton at 3 o'clock thie morning, resulting in the total destruction of business premises occupied by T. West wood & Co., grocers; G H. Stiles,draper; E. Ball, hairdresser ; R. Noonan, painter; 0. Spring, grocer; L. E. Rsade, solicitor; iE. Mackie, stationer; M. Perreau, . baker ; and E. Tnomas, hairdresser. j Another Jarge building was saved by ■ the demolition of the intervening hairf dressing establishment. The buildings ! destroyed were owned by Mr E. S. Thynne, late proprietor of the Manawalu Herald, and Messrs Austin Bros. The fire originated in Westwood's premises, and burned rapidly, no water being available. The damage is estimated at £IO,OOO. Details of insurances are not available, but the losses in each instance are heavy. The buildings destroyed constitute the major portion of the business part of the town. Earlier in the day Coley and Easton's flaxmill at Wirokino was destroyed by a fire originating in the tow hole. Nothing was saved, but the engine may be of use again. The loss is estimated at £IOOO.
