TROOPERS' MEMORIAL.

A mketi-g of the Troopers' Memorial Committee was held ou Wedtnsday evening. Present: Messrs E. Dockrill (chairman), W. L. Newmin, N. K. MacDiaroii.i, J. E'iot, S. Smi:h, F. T. B illriiiger, Colonel Ellis, aod M<>j jr Okey. The Chairman rxplained that the meeting was called to coosidor what further steps should bi taken to further the erection of some memorial to this ircopera wh i died in the South African war. He detailed information rectmd from the late Mayor of Auckland regarding a marble s'-n'ue erected there, the cost of the statue being about £llO, r.hus showing fuch a memorial was -vithin the means of the local committee. It was decided to hold a pyrotechnic display ia the Recreation Grounds on Brxing night, if possible, in aid of the funds.

No further steps will be taken at present to collect subscriptions toward the fund. It wiss rfsolved tc communicate with Messrs Park : nson and Co., of Auckland, regarding pi ice of a statue. The AgentGeneral will also be written to to aecertiin prices of broza figure replies of monuments in England, The secret,iry whs instructed to write to Mr E, M. Smith relative to two signal guns promised by the Government eighteen months ago, and ascertain their approximate weight.
