STARTFORD-WHANGAMOMONA LINE.
*ER PBESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, September 5. The deputation re the Stratford Wbangamoinona railway extension waited on the Premier and the Hon. Hall-Jones this morning. There were present: Messrs Jennings, Lawry, Symas, M.H.R.'s; Messrs King (Mayor of S'.ratford), J. Mackay (Chairman of County Council), McCluggage, Sole, and Calvert. Mr Symes introduced the deputation and Messrs Jennings and Lawry spoke in favour. Af'ei' the Mayor, Mr Mackay and other members had spoken, Mr Hall Jones rep'i: d, pu'ntiog out thu great progress of th ) diVricfc and his inten tion to further pmh ahead the public works as far as finances allowed him. It w»s his desire to do all he cou'd to advance the interests of the settlers. The Premier stated it was thu intention of the Government to give all consideration to the extension as ho j recognised the settlors about the dig- I trict had done a lot in helping thetn- j selves by providing roads. They were, j thartforo, entitled to consideration The railway line to the mountain for' metal would be provided for, and that would help settler*, and a fair allocation would be m\de for the SlrviordWhangam >mon* railway extension. Mr Hall-Jones would vi-it thw district and whatever difierenea existed re the proposed route would be settled, then progress would he made. He recognised the reasonableness of the representations of the deputation, and the Government would do what was possible to carry ouo their wishes.
Tho members of the deputation expressed themselves as being satisfied with the result of the interview.
