STRÀTFORD-WHANGAMOMONA RAILWAY.

Fbom the Stratford papers we learn there was an excellent attendance at the meeting at Stratford to urge the Government to push on with the cons ruction of tbe Whangamomona railway. The Mayor of Stratford occupied the chair and referred to the object of the meeting, and read apologies from a number of gentleman wuo were unable to attend. Amongst those present from New Plymouth were His Worship the Mayor (Mr E. Ooek), the Chairman of the New Plymouth Chamber of Commerce (Mr W. Bewley), the Chairman of the Taranaki County Council,(Mr H, Okey), and Mr Newton King. After the Mayor of Stratford (Mr W. J. King) had dwelt on the obj«ct and importance of the meeting, Mr W. Symes, M.H.R., Mr Joseph Mackay, M.A. (Chairman of the Stratford County Council), Messrs Cock, Bewley, and Okey spoke, expressing avmpathy with the meeting. * Mr W. 6. Malone moved, and Mr Joseph McCluggage seconded, "That this meeting urge upon the Governmens the necessity of pushing on the construction and completion of the Stratford-Whangamomona line'" The motion was strongly supported by Mr Geo. Moir and others and carried unanimously. A deputation, consisting of the Mayor of Stratford and Messrs Sole and McCluggage, was then appointed to wait on the Minister of Public Works, and it was decided to form a Railway League to further the objects of the meeting. The meeting was thoroughly representative and hearty, and ac the conclusion Mr Malone moved, and Mr Fryday seconded, that a hearty vote of thanks be passed to Mr Cock (Mayor of New Plymouth), Mr Bewley (Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce), and Mr Okey (Chairman of the Taranaki County Council), for their attendance and assistance that evening. The motion was carried unanimously, and Mr R. Cock thanked the meeting, and stated that New Plymouth would always be found willing to assist. He would endeavour te start a branch of the League there. • A vote of thanks to th 3 chair terminated the proceedings.
