VOLUNTEER NEWS.
The School of Instruction met on Thursday. In the afternoon a practical illustration of the method of handling a working party for field fortifications was given, and the remaindor of the afternoon d&voted to " fire control.'' In the evening the subject of f ' attack and defence " of a position was taken. Lieut.-Col. Owen intimated that there would be no meeting of the class next Thursday in view of the Commandant's visit. It is rumored that the order for the Stratford Mounted Kifles to parade in New Plymouth on Thursday next is cancelled. If this is to avoid the expense of training the corps and their horses to New Plymouth, is is very scurvy treatment of one of the smartest mounted corps in the colony, and certainly is not the way to encourage volunteering. New Plymouth people will be greatly disappointed if this popular oorps is absent,
