The man was 67 years of age, had no friends, and had only been in the Porirua Asylum a few days. Last week a bushfaller named William Brown came to town from the MiSterton district and weut to stay at i boarding-house in Manners street, He commenced drinking heavily, and on Tuesday mortiicg was found in b:-d in a state of collapse with bleed coining from his mouth and co?e, and he died shortly after. A post mortem examination revealed a frac.uro of fcho skull just above the ieft t< mp'e, which it was supposed had been Ciueed nitbin 24 hours of death, An inquiry intu the matter commenceu yesterday and concluded to-day, but no evid; uo was forthcoming to show how tbe man was injured, and the jury returned an open verdict. I Inveecabgill, August 20. John Murphy, traveller for J. G. Ward, kft Winton by train for Lumsden yesterday, and got out at a side station a mile and a half from Lumsden, where his dead body was found on the sido of the line. It ia supposed he fflic attempting to got aboaid, sustaining injuries to his head.
