ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
?EB PRESS ASSOCIATION. GISBOANE, August 18, A native named Wi Wipjpa was drowned in tin Waiapu River yesterday afternoon, being swepS off bia horse by the flooded strram. Auckland, August 18. Wiliiam Macefleld McLeod, who was committed to Auckland gaol in February l;st for 10 yeiw, was found dead in bed at the gaol this morning. He had been suffering from sore throat, and was treated by the gaol surgeon. An inquest will probably be held, Napier, August 18.
The body of a man named John McKenaie, a driver employed by the Hon. J. D. Ormond, was found at Omaranui yest-rday, having apparently fallen off a dray loaded with hay, which he was driving, an 1 broken his neck, Deceased, who «as about 40 years of age, is believed to have been single. Dusedin, August 18.
A s*ory of a terrible accident, with great pluck and endurance, is reported by the Oromwell correspondent of the Daily Times. A rabbiter on the Mount Piwu ssiui:>n named Olarka clipped on the ice aed fell down a Rte*p face, fracturing his hip, and a slurp rock mnde a gash foui- inches in length in his abioman, expas ; ng the bowels. Clarke, not having a pen knife, made holes with the tongue of his belt buckle and stitched up the wound with a bootlace. His younger brother and sister found him and brought blankets to place under him, and en these he had to res'; till diylight, as ii was impossible to remove biin in the d irk. He was taken next day to the Cromwell Hospital.
