HEAVY RAINFALL.
lAND SUPS ON RAILWAYS. ROADS BLOCKED. WELLINGTON HXPRR33 STOPPAD' PUB PRBBS ASSOCIATION W ELLINGTON, August 14. There was a very heavy rainfall during the night and to-diy, and several streets in the low-lying parts of the city are flooded. There have been an exceptional number of land slips and ajma damage to property. Railway running is interfered v.il,h, ths up miil train to Napier being blocked at Mungaroa, the passengers transhipping. The Hutt-road is blocked, and mea* and milk carts are prevented reaching the town to day.
The rainfall in 24 hours is 3.75 inches.
The Manawata Company's morning through train from Well ngton was no r despatched, and the through train from Palmeraton is not expected until lite in th 9 afternoon. The tins is expected to be cle&r this evening. The Post Office advised at noon on Friday that ii b'g s'ip on the line at Wadestown has stopped the express traiu, and that she could get through.
