; PER PRESS AfSXIIATION. , Wellington, August 12. , A deputation waited on the Minister . of Justice to-day to suggest that . magistrates should be given power to } inflict sentences up to 12 mouths on . confirmed drunkards. In regard to , cases of solicitation in the streets it , was thought magistrates should have power to commit up to 3 months. > The Minister said it was his opinion they must adopt some other system than gaoling such offenders.
