HARBOUR BOARD ITEMS.

The Lyttelton Harbour Board has decided to get the opinion of the Government actuary on the superannuation scheme for Harbour Board employees. The Opuaake branch of the Farmers' Union has written to Mr K. W. Hornby, of Manaia, congratulating him upon his appointnnnt to the Harbour Board, and expressing the hope that from such good will accrue to the southern portion of the Harbour district.

The Opunake Times thinks the time has arrived when the reoently-formsd Egmont Council should be urged to tike steps for the formation of an Opunake.haibour district, and suggests that the denning boundaries should be Pungarehu on the north side, and the Oeo river on the south. The advantage of an Opunaka harbour district, the journal points out, wou'd be to have the council a harbour board so tha*: i" might be in a represantative position to oppose inclusion of its area in any further rating for New Plymouth, Ratepayers in the district would then have two strings to their bow, one in conjunction with the ratepayers throughout the district who are opposed to any furoher borrowing, and the other that they were residents of another harbour district which had no connection with the New Plymouth | harbour from a beneficial point of view, [Ehis would put; the Opunake ps-'ple in a similar position to those at Waitara, and would bo of no possible usa, -Ed. D.N/]
