PRESENTATION TO LIEUrBNANT HOLMES.

The members of the Physical Drill and Wand Ex«rcise Squad, met at the Guards Club on Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m., and Sergeant Goldwater on behalf of the fiquad, presented Lieutenant Holmes with a handsomely framed photo of the Squad. In making the presentation ho (Sergeant Goldwater) fpoke of the valuable services Lieut, Holmes had rendered the Company, and ssid that while they were 60rry to loose bim, they congratulated him on his promotion, and wished him every success, and hoped before long to hear of his sitting on the Bsnch. Lieutenc-nt Holma?, in thanking Sergt. Goldwater and too members of the Squad, said that it (the photo) would always remind him of the ve;y pleasant time he spent while a member of the Guards, snd he hoped the Company would always keep up the fine reputation it cow held. He informed tnese present that he had already had an invitation to join a Company in Wellington. Sergt. White then called for three cheers for the Lieutenant which were heartily given, after which the Squad joined hands ar.d sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." The Stratford Rifles are holding special parades to brmh up for General Bibington's inspection. No'ice is given of the following parades of the Taranaki R fles: —Monday 10t,h and 17th, Compiny pjrades at 7.30 p.m. (blue uniform); Wednesday 26th at 7.30 p.m , aid Thursday 27th at 2 p.m., insp:ction parades (scarlet uniform). After the parade on 26 sh irist, the election of second lieutenant will take place.
