Thebx was a good attendance at the school of. military icstructors on Thursday. Ia the nfternoon the class were divided into squads under LieutenaotOolonel Owen, Captain Cook and Staff Sergeant-Major Instructor Russell, | R.K, and a lesson was given in practical topography under somewhat disadvantageous circumstances owing to i the weather. In the evening a lecture I on the subject of protecting troops to a | force on march and the necessity for ! scouting, under the heading of tactics, bv Colonel Owen and an exposition of intersection, resection and traversing by Sergt.-Maj )r Russell proved exceedingly interesting. The general orders read to the headquarter corps on Tuesday evening have S been forwarded to the country coi ps j with an Intimation that on arrival at j New Plymouth the corp3 are to march to the racecourse and take up the position . to Free railway passes will Do j an _d both officers and men will have dinners provided for them.
