Speaking at Manaia, Mr Maxwell asserted that the harbour had cost £530,000, and the revenue for last year was but £7OOO. It had never paid its way. To do so it would have to earn £26,000 annually. Haw,he.a* , ted ) would a farmer get on who paid no rent for 20 years? Very badly,he was afraid. [Most farmers would be glad to get such a concession.—Ed.]
