CYCLE ROAD RACE.

Ohristohurch, July 25. i The Timaru to Ohristohurch cycle ro id race was decided to-day in a heavy gale, As rain bad been falling for two days previously, the roads were in an appalling mess, but 49 compati»om started, A. Oalder was the only scratch maD, his nearest attendants being R. Arnst, 10 minutes; G. Arnst and W. Oongreve, 15 minuses. The limit men eet a good pace for the firs* 20 milea, taking juit over an hour. TLen. riverbeds and snow covered the
roads and slowed them down. Half disbhee Was reached by S. Barrow (25 minutes s'art) and J. Arnst, after riding 4J hours; R. Arnst being three minutes bshind. The latter caught the leaders at Rakaia, bu 1 ; got the oramp and had to s v op. Barrow and Arnst rode together till 1£ miles from the finish, when Birrow made anefbrt and won by one minute, R. Arnst being tblrdf'eight minutes bhind the winner. J. Arnst did the fastest time 7houra 20 minutes. J. and R. Arnst will represent the colony in the Warr-nambool-Melbrmrne match.
