SHIPPING CASUALTIES.
Per Press Association. Auckland, July 23. Five seamen oa the American barque Maiy L. Gushing were reminded on a ehsrge cf insubordination, The vessel put into Auckland in distress.
The solicitor for the defence said it was intended to plead that the vessel w.-.s unseaworthy and the pumps wero unable to overcome hn.k*.
Napier, July 23,
Three fee t six inches of water was pumped out of No. 4 hold of the Niwaru to-day, and the vessel steamed out to the anchorage this afternoon An examination to ascer ain the extent of the damage will be made as soon as the weather moderates. It is anticipated that the atenmer will shortly hi able to leave for Auckland to go into dock.
The cargo of the lighter Queen is being washed ashore, and the vessel herself shows signs of breaking up,
