MOUNTED BIFLBS OAMP.
The visiting troops, up to last night, were favoured with fine weather, and men in camp continue to put in a lot of useful work. On Tuesday a field day was held, the companies biog marched through the town, af cer which they were exercised in skirmishing and outpost work between Moturoa and Oaiata.
The following entries were received for competitioLs at the Sports Meeting to be held to morrow (Thursday) under the auspicss of the Stratford and Egmont Mounted Rifles on the Ricecourse :
• Victoria Cross: Dante, Stock Boy, The Nud, Van Cauriej, Brown Bill, Colquet, SingleaboS. Despatch Race : Stock Boy, Brownie, Van Courier, Ngamiland, Singleshot, Blackjack. Life Saving : Dante, The Nun, Van Courier, Brownie, Browu Bill, Singleshot, Ngamiland. An extra event, which has been added to the programme cf the Military Tournament, Returned Troopers' Best Turnout, is open only to all returned troopers. A priz) will be given. Post entry. There are eight other items on the programme, for which nominations are due at the post. The Military Tournament will commence at 12.30 to-morrow (Thursday). The corps will parade through the town the same morning headed by the Garrison Band.

The latest district orders issued to volunteers in the Wellington district notify that all battalion staffs and corps are to be fully offioend immediately. The new order has caused something of a flutter in one or t*o companiei in rhe city which have been neglecting to maka appointments, The position now is tbat the officer commanding will fill vacancies if the corps fails to do so. In connection with the annual prize medal firing, it has been discovered (siys a Wellington wire) that Private J. F. Smith's score of 110 was beaten by one point by Private R, M. Harding, of the Blenheim Rifles, who thus secures the gold medsil for the best shot in the South Island.
