ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETIES COUNCIL.

Welmsotoh, July 19. The Council of the New Zealand Acclimatisation Societies met here yesterday. It was decided to request the Colonial Secretary to allow Acclimatisation Societies to destroy stoats and weasels where they serve no useful purpos s; also that police officers be instructed to assist in the suppression of poic'ning. Certain suggestions for the amendment of the Animals Protection Act, and Fisheries Conservation Act will also be placed before the Government. The following reoommondations of the committee were agreed to: —That there be an uniform shooting season throughout the coiony, and a uniform shooting license fee, and that Societies shall have power to endorse licenses issued by other Societies. That the godwit reason in Auckland be altered to December, January and Febcuary. That it be made compulsory to take out licenses to shoot native game. Thit it be necessary for coursing ' clubs to take licenses of not lass than £5 in districts where hares are not vermin. That regulations be framed providing for registration of societies, and definition of boundaries. That any person shall have privilege to transfer his right to shoot on his own hnd, without license, to any one person for the whole season. That a uniform fishing licensee fee be arranged throughou", the colony, without provisiou as to endorsement, as follows: XI fo» men, 5s for ledses and boys; and that it be optional for tho Society to issue half season single river or special day license?. That the keeping of trout in a frozen s'at* for more than seven days after the close of the fishing season be prohibited. Mr Russell of Invercargill, speaking as to the latter, said hundredweights, if not tons, of frozen trout were sent away from nil district after being netted.
