RACING CONFERENCE.

At the Raciog Conference, a comnittee was appointed to report whether criminalproceedings should be instituted against the pirties concerned in the Opportunity ringing-incase. A motion from the Otago c mutry clubs to al.er the amount of stakes payaole to an average of £2O per race, instead of £l5O per day, was negatived. The Conference negatived a proposal that all clubs holding race meetings on two or inore days shall include at one hut die race on each day. It was decided to call the attention of stewards to the rale regarding the appointment of judicial committees to deal with protests and ■ disqualifications, Motions for the eppoiutment of an advisory steward, and to debar a horsa ur,der thiee years from staring in any race, were lost. Is was resolved that a hack ■ball be regarded as a horse which, at time of nomination, has not won a race of 80 80V8 in value, or races to the collective value of 200 sovs. A moticn making it compulsory for a starting macnine to be used at all race meetings lapsed. It was agreed to make it compulsory to weigh tvery article carried by a horse in a race; also, that no allowance in weight gentlemen riders when competing agunst professionals. The latter rule will Hot affect programme already issued.
