OPPOSITION TO HARBOUR IMPROVEMENTS.
The people of Waitiru who are opposed j to aoy iroprovinnnc in the shipping I facilities at New Plymouth, for a very ' obvious reason, are losing no time to work up a strong fetliug against the Harbour tbard'a proposal. The loo<l paper fays: —" The decision to invite Mr Mixwell to give an address aft Waitara on harbour matters, and the willingness of that gen tinman to comply with the request, will give almost general eatisfic ion throughout this part of the rating district. Mr Maxwell is so well acquainted with the working of the breakwater as a harbour, and with all details pertaining to shipping nutters on this coast, b asides hiving at his Sogers' ends the truth of inany little transac'ions cf which, perhaps, only one side has been heird, that his visit will hive an educative effect, and give an additioaal interest to the subject of harbour extension." Considering lhe number of years Mr Maxwell has been Chairman of the Harbour Board he should should know all about the " little transactions " suggested, particularly the sand pump inquifcy, and it will probably b3 better for Mr. Maxwell if the other aidd is not heard. Ia connection with this matter, we understand a meeting of the Harbour Extension Committee was held a few days ago, at which Mr. A. Standish urged very strongly that some action be taken to put the full facts of the Board's case before the ratepayers before their minds are poisoned by the false statements in circulation. The o h'jr members of the Committee not agreeing with Mr. Standish, he resigned his seat on the Committer, and will probably t:iko some action himself in the matter of educating the | harbour ratepiyors,
