A NEW SASH BOLT.

The June number oE the Building World contains a de?criptiou of an automatic burglar-proof sash bolt that bas been pitented by Mr Osborne Wall who, it will be remembered, was at one time in business in New Piymouth. The bolt, which is fixed to the side of the sasb, is actuated by a spring. The bolt is shot into a socket in the side of the op per sasb, and in thia pasition the window is locked. The bolt, being provided at its end with a roller disc, travels smoothly up the face of the upper sash. The fastner admits of the window being left partly open, and yet locked by the bolt entering a hole bored in tbe upper sash at the distance required. When the bolt enters this h >le it shoots into its place automatically. Any number of hales may be used the bolt being held in the hand until the hole sought for is reached. One go >d point of the invention is that the window can be left partly open and yet be burglar proof,, for the bolt in ordinary esses would bo too far off for a "visitor" to put in his aim to reach, but in any case his object can be frustrated by tbe use of a small padlock put through a hasp beneath the handle. The annoying rattling of the sashes during windy weather is prevented by the pressure of the bolt end upon the uppar sash. We have seen a specimen of the bolt, which is neat in appearance, and simple in construction, and oan, it is stated, be manufactured cheaply.
